East Devon 1

Okehampton men’s firsts 1

OKEHAMPTON men’s first team travelled away to play East Devon after a win down in Penzance last week.

The confidence was high and with a squad of 13 Okehampton had everything to play for.

The game started strongly, as Oke held their formation well, with Luke Liversidge, Rob Hall and James Rogers commanding the troops from the back.

A number of chances arose, resulting in a short corner that nearly hit the mark, but the East Devon keeper made a good save and the attack was broken. Both teams made chances, but Oke finally took the lead after an almighty flick from Hall to Luke Miller in the midfield; Miller dribbled it up the pitch, skilfully outsmarting the East Devon players with his trickery. Miller then passed it into Sam Whalley, who took it round the keeper and smashed it home. The half ended with Okehampton 1-0 in the lead going into the second half.

East Devon started after the interval with much more intent and there was an early chance superby saved by keeper George Morgan.

Some good defending from Neil Rowlands and Simon Bourne before a heavy tackle sent Josh Speak flying resulting in a short corner for Oke. This was so nearly converted, but alas for Oke, they could not extend their lead.

James Stevens and Reuben Bourne kept their heads in the Oke midfield, stopping a few counter attacks and offering up a few chances on goal.

With only two minutes to go,  East Devon broke away and managed to sneak one into the goal, making it 1-1.

The final whistle blew, Okehampton had so nearly won, but could still be proud of their performance taking one point away from it.
