RUNNERS in Chagford are being invited to take part in a 24-hour community relay run around the town in memory of a well-known member of the community who died of cancer in September.
Kate Webber and her sister Beth are staging Run 4 Rosie in memory of their mum Rosie Webber, who died of lung cancer a few short months after being diagnosed with the disease. All ages and abilities are invited to take part in the event organised by Chagford Runners over 24 hours on March 9 and 10, to raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Rosie was well-known to people in Chagford from Webbers ironmongers, an institution in the town, which shut fairly recently.
‘We are doing it on what would have been Mum’s 69th birthday, March 10,’ said Kate.
‘We thought that would be a fitting date. My parents had only been retired for six months when mum was diagnosed and she died within a few months.
‘I wanted to support the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation because what happened to Mum happens all the time, people get diagnosed too late.’
There is a charge for the event starting at 9am on Saturday, March 9 at the club house at the War Memorial Playing Fields and donations are also invited on a Just Giving page.
People are welcome to joining seasoned endurance runners doing the whole 24-hour or just join in for a shorter time. See Facebook page Run 4 Rosie for more details.
