HOUSE burglaries and thefts from cars feature in this week’s #newsfromtheblues police page. See this week’s edition of the Times for more.
• POLICE are investigating a burglary to a dwelling in Oakfield Road, Hatherleigh that occurred during the early hours of Monday, June 5. A male has been arrested in connection with this matter and he remains under investigation while enquiries continue. Police would be very keen to speak to anyone who witnessed any activity in the Oakfield Road area around that time or who might have any information about the incident. CR/044434/17.
• A burglary occurred at a ground floor flat at Castle Ham Lodge, Castle Road, Okehampton overnight between Thursday, June 8 and Friday, June 9. Police are interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed any activity in the vicinity of Castle Ham Lodge during that period. This complex of flats is occupied by mainly vulnerable or elderly residents so any other persons in the area during the night should be considered suspicious.
Members of the public are reminded to secure their doors and windows overnight, especially those on the ground floor. This security measure is often overlooked during warmer weather. CR/046140/17.
• A blue, Renault Scenic had its passenger side front window smashed and a handbag stolen from inside while parked in a lay-by in Sticklepath on June 3 between 10.30am and 11.30am. CR/043500/17.
• Two vehicles at a business premises in Merrivale Road in Okehampton had their fuel caps broken and fuel stolen between 4.30pm on Friday, June 2 and 7am on Monday, June 5. Also at the same location between 6.15pm on Sunday, June 4 and 8am on Monday, June 5 items were stolen from the premises, including batteries, scrap metal and building materials. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CR/044043/17.
• A Radley purse was stolen from a car parked by the river in Sticklepath on June 3, between 10.30 am and 11.40am. CR/044220/17.
• An Iveco van was set alight and burnt out in a field in the Folly Gate area between 8pm and 11pm on Monday, June 5. CR/044329/17.
• Around £400 worth of heating oil was stolen from a tank in Chagford overnight, between 10pm on Friday, June 2 and 10am on Saturday, June 3. Police want to remind people with oil tanks to purchase alarms to fit to tanks which sound when the oil level goes down to fast. Police suggest people take as many precautions as possible. • Police are asking members of the public to remember, when attending rural locations for a walk, to ensure that all valuables are hidden prior to reaching the final destination and that nothing is left on display. The warmer weather is approaching and already thefts from motor vehicles have been happening across the area. Some vehicles have not been locked, so ensure that your vehicle is locked prior to walking away. Officers say criminals do not usually break into a vehicle that they either have not seen items being put into the boot or that do not have items clearly visible.
