INWARDLEIGH Parish Council has ‘adopted’ the village’s phone box and is asking residents to make suggestions for its future use.
The council now owns the traditional village phone box after completing its acquisition through the ‘BT Adopt a Kiosk’ scheme.
Since the Adopt a Kiosk programme was launched, more than 2,300 communities across the UK have seized the opportunity to do something wonderful with local phone boxes that had little or no usage.
Thousands of communities have already come up with a fantastic array of ideas to re-use their beloved local phone box.
Phone boxes already adopted include a grocery shop, a wildlife information centre and the Community Heartbeat Trust charity has even installed defibrillators in some local boxes.
Parish clerk Marilyn Cooper said: ‘We have just “adopted” the BT kiosk and are asking residents for suggestions. A defibrillator has been suggested by the very active and hard working Inwardleigh Fund Raising Committee, this is something we are considering, but even if it merely remains empty the residents want to keep the kiosk as a bit of history.’
To raise your suggestion contact the clerk on 01837 53305.
