HATHERLEIGH was a spectacle of colour and torchlight last weekend, as the town held its annual carnival.

Thousands of people filled the streets to enjoy a fun-packed programme of entertainment, which began with the traditional pulling of unlit barrels on Friday evening.

The first barrel was lit early on Saturday, with the final one one bringing the carnival to a close after the procession on Saturday night.
