THE Island Park Party celebrating the 110th Hatherleigh Carnival and appointment of the carnival's royalty will take place this weekend.

The fun starts at 6.30pm on Saturday, September 14 with live music from Hatherleigh Silver Band, a hog roast and bar. Prices have been kept low to ensure as many people as possible can come along to the event.

There will be fun attractions including a surf simulator, children's rides, bouncy castle, duck races and live music from Revolvin' Door. The winner of the competition held at Hatherleigh Primary School to design a bag commemorating 110 years of the carnival will also be announced.

In line with the celebratory feel of the evening, the fancy dress theme will be glitz and glamour, and there will be a prize for the best dressed adult and child.

Carnival presidents John and Janet Hill will present sashes to 2013 carnival queen Jazzmine Stacey, and junior royalty.

Carnival organisers are still looking for a prince and princess, though organisers have decided that if a couple does not come forward, entries from just a prince or princess will be accepted.

Successful candidates receive a grant towards the cost of their float, and the carnival committee are always on hand to give any help or advice needed.
