KES Tor Class at Okehampton Primary had to put their thinking caps on and solve the crime of a missing cat before their Easter holidays. The school librarian's ornamental cat, Electra, had been stolen and classes were asked to help solve the crime. The children of Kes Tor were trained as secret agents, choosing spy names and making ID badges. They gathered evidence and information so they could create 'Missing' posters, which were displayed around the school. Pupils then drew up a list of suspects – including headteacher Mrs Fox! In science, they tested soil samples from footprints, pen samples from a mysterious note left on the staff room door and looked at changes in the suspects' heart rates. Fortunately, it turned out Electra had not been stolen, but taken away to be mended by a helpful classroom assistant. Once the crime was solved they created their own secret agent stories and pupils presented their work in an assembly with parents.
