COLD weather and the following thaw meant Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was kept busy over the Christmas period, dealing with flooding in properties caused by burst pipes.

One fire appliance from Okehampton was called to a ground floor flat at The Glen, Okehampton, on Christmas Eve morning to deal with flooding in the property. Fire crews isolated the water and electricity supplies.

On Boxing Day evening, a fire appliance from Hatherleigh was called to a terraced house in Bridge Street in the town, to deal with flooding caused by a burst pipe.

Approximately four inches of water was covering the ground floor of the property, which was pumped out by fire crews, who also isolated the electricity and water supplies.
