THE May Medal and the Jim Butcher Trophy at Okehampton Golf Club was contested on Saturday.
The winner of division one and the Jim Butcher trophy with an impressive net 61 was Alan Stokes. Second was Jerry Lock with net 64. Ian Moore was third with net 66.
The winner of division two with net 64 was Dave Harwood; second came Bob Barrett with net 66 on the back nine from in third Allen Deakin. Division three was closely fought with the top three players all coming in with a score of net 68. After count back Sam Woollacott came first, with Alan Jeffrey second and Graham Harding third.
Last week the club held their Ladies' Spring Open, a three ball Texas Scramble, in beautiful sunny conditions with 18 golf clubs represented. Overall winners with a score of 57 were Margaret Bruce, Margaret Holmes and Charleyne Platt of Carlyon Bay Golf Club; second overall were Pam Jarman, Ann Short and Sandra Townsley from Okehampton and Fingle Glen Golf Clubs with 58.8. The first visitors team were Carol Skrzypczak, Carol Baker and Ruth Bennett from Holsworthy Golf Club with 61.4, the second visitors team from Tavistock Golf Club were Liz Lyndon, T Hughes and G Read with 64. Best combination team were Marcia Jones (Okehampton), Debbie More (Exeter Golf and Country Club) and Sue Stanbury (Ashbury Golf Club) with 61.2. The first Okehampton team were Doris Jewell, Michelle Abel and Lorna McCurrach with 67.2.
