SAXOPHONIST Alan Barnes, who is generally recognised as the number one jazz musician in Britain today, together with the Martin Dale Quartet — Plymouth’s number one jazz group — will be appearing at Plymouth Jazz Club on Sunday (November 1).
Alan is probably the busiest jazz musician in the UK, appearing at all the major jazz festivals (he is president of most of them!) and jazz venues.
A musician of international standing, he has toured the UK and Europe with the Brian Ferry Band, made concert appearances in New York and Tokyo with Charlie Watts and the Tentet and broadcast for over ten years with the BBC Radio Big Band and Orchestra.
Not only is Alan highly talented on all saxophones and clarinets, he is also an entertaining speaker — he can tell hilarious anecdotes and is never at a loss for a joke, amusing comment or repartee.
Plymouth based saxophonist Martin Dale is one of the busiest and most popular jazz musicians in the South West and is also a member of the London based group Sax Appeal.
He has worked on the QE2 as lead alto player, backing such artists as Neil Sedaka, Petula Clark and Tom Jones and has recorded for the BBC on radio and television. He will be joined by Gavin Martin on piano and Kevin Sanders on bass — both are well known musicians in their own right.
