AN organisation that aims to develop artistic opportunities in Okehampton is looking for support to run more events in the town.

Ocmundtune Creative Arts is an organisation run by artists and volunteers to promote and celebrate the arts in Okehampton.

At first this goal is aimed to be achieved through using existing facilities in the town, but long-term the group wants to develop and manage an inspirational arts and craft centre in Okehampton that would be a centre of excellence for the area.

Last May the group held a weekend of arts activities in the Ockment Centre with exhibitions by nine artists, three nights of concerts with ten bands, a craft fair and much more.

For the group to achieve its aims including holding similar events like last May's arts weekend it needs a committee and more volunteers.

Hilary Eckleswood, a member of Ocmuntune Creative Arts, said: 'We would love to hold another event like the May 2014 weekend. I just wish we could this year, but lack of help is holding us back.'

The lack of members is also holding back the group's 'Ocmundtune Hare Project', a plan to create a town trail depicting Dartmoor hares throughout the town. The project would include community groups who could create their own hares to be included on the trail.

Hilary said: 'We can't go forward with the hare project until we have a committee or volunteers who want to get involved.'
