BONDLEIGH artist Celia Olsson will be taking her glowing watercolour and mixed media paintings to London at the Parallax Art Fair in Chelsea Town Hall on October 18 and 19.

Inspiration for her work comes from a wide range of sources: her trips around the UK and abroad, music, poetry, and the tors of Dartmoor and the rolling hills near her home.

Celia said: 'I walk in all weather, making quick sketches of the scene around me, looking for the many varied colours in what at first seems very ordinary.

'On a bright winter's day Dartmoor gleams gold and russet, but even when so-called grey clouds fill the sky, it is amazing what colours I can find.'

Back at home Celia uses her sketches to create paintings full of colour and memories of the places she has been.

She works mostly in watercolour and enjoys creating texture in her paintings with whatever is at hand, be it packaging, kitchen items, or collage, as well as specialist texture-making mixed media.

From her travels she brings back a collection of museum passes, bus tickets, tourist information and other items, which she may use in a painting of that place.

She has recently started creating books as art. Some are original paintings in book form and others are reproductions made into books of various styles. All have unique cover designs.

At present she is working on a book of paintings illustrating a group of parishes in Cornwall, as well as paintings to go with a book of poems written by her husband.
