THE hills of Exbourne were alive with the sound of music On Saturday night when a barn dance was held at Coxwell Farm by invitation of Rob and Janet Phipps.

Walter Shortage and his Hosepipe Banned played as more than 150 adults and children danced the evening away. One member of the band said it was a joy to take part in a real old-fashioned barn dance held in a real barn on a working farm.

Participants enjoyed a spit roast, barbecue, and cakes and ice-cream.

The event was held in aid of three Exbourne community organisations, the pre-school, the shop project and the playing field.

Committee members of all three groups thanked all who attended the dance, cooked and donated food, helped organise the event and in particular those who were unable to attend but made some generous donations.

Thanks were also expressed to Rob and Janet for their generosity and kindness.

Sally Hordern, on behalf of the organisers, said: 'This was a real across the community event encompassing all ages and enjoyed equally by those who danced and those who just watched. A very big thank you to all concerned.'
