FIREFIGHTERS were called to the A30 westbound from Whiddon Down to Drew's Cottage last Wednesday (December 3) after a report of a lorry on fire.

One fire crew from Danes Castle Exeter, one from Middlemoor, Exeter and the water foam carrier from Torquay attended just after 5.30am.

Firefighters found a large goods vehicle with an empty trailer well alight and severely damaged by fire. The vehicle was extinguished by fire crews using four breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets and foam.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental.

Highways attended to deal with a leakage of diesel on the carriageway.
