After the success of Half Girl (2014), Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Young Company return to the stage with Buckets on Wednesday, August 24 to Saturday, August 27 in The Drum.

‘Your battery life is limited and will begin to deplete from the moment you begin. I’m just a little conscious of time…’

From the logical case for kissing immediately, to the crisis of filling a free afternoon, Buckets is a warm, wise and witty take on a universal dilemma – how do you deal with the fact that time always runs out?

An interwoven web of stories, characters and moments – moment seized, moments wasted, moments you can never forget and moments you wish you could — Buckets is an entertaining new play from Adam Barnard about bucket lists, life planning and the disappointing fact you’re not going to live forever.

Maddy, who is a member of the Young Company, said: ‘The Young Company has opened doors for me that are not always available for actors my age. Buckets is a play written for an adult cast, but the young company has given us the opportunity to perform the play.’

The play is performed by an 18-strong cast of 14 to 20 year-olds along with five young stage managers who are all part of the Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Young Company.

The company offers workshops and performance opportunities throughout the year for five to 21 year-olds. The company works with professional practitioners to develop numerous skills for the stage or behind the scenes.

Jane Pawson, Young People’s producer, said: ‘When the director, Lee Hart, and I first read the script we were very excited about it, it felt timely and it offers a great challenge for the Young Company.

‘Thirty-two seemly unconnected scenes come together to paint a picture about how we choose to fill our time on this planet and we felt that young voices would bring a lot to it.

‘It’s poignant but also full of dark humour, for me, this play feels like a celebration of life.’
