WHEN our story on the reopening of the White Hart Hotel broke on Monday afternoon, dozens of you took to our Facebook page to comment and share your thoughts on the news. Here are a selection of the best comments.

Hilary Eckleswood: Good news. High streets need to be open for business.

Only problem is that they will attract people to Okehampton but many shops in our lovely town close/open at will or don’t stick to advertised opening times. Wetherspoons will ensure some businesses up their game and the well run businesses are sustainable.

Andy Butler: Great news for jobs and it will hopefully stop some of the whingers of Okehampton saying it looks like an eyesore.

Funny how they don’t say anything about the Plume of Feathers being an eyesore.

Jo Firbank: Good news, nothing worse than a closed down pub (making two) and let’s face it, the food and drinks are very affordable.

Okehampton needs life and trade so I don’t mind if the high street gets a little rowdy.

Steve Tickner: Great news, good employers, good wages, all good for the local community. But, some pubs will seriously need to up their game. That includes enterprise / punch inn putting some clout behind their tenants, doubtful but it will be needed. These guys know their game very well indeed.
