PRESENT and former residents of Yelverton are invited to attend a celebration this Sunday to mark the centenary anniversary of the building of St Pauls Church.

Before the 1800s, Yelverton was barren moor and farmland within the ancient parish of Buckland Monachorum. In 1895 a wooden structure became the first Anglican church of the new village, but the building became inadequate for the needs of Yelverton.

Twelve years later, in 1907, £515 and an acre of land were donated for a new church by Mrs Bayly of Elfordtown. Other donations followed and a foundation stone for St Pauls church was laid on August 8 1910.

A special service to mark the passing of 100 years since the foundation stone was laid will be held at St Pauls this Sunday (August 15) at 3pm followed by tea to which all present and former inhabitants of Yelverton are welcome to attend.
