A CHARITY concert by the Okehampton Singers on June 4 has raised over £100 for Rethink Mental Illness.

Around 100 people turned out to the Ockment Centre for the concert, which saw the ladies’ choir perform a range of songs including some musical theatre classics. This was the choir’s second concert since its creation last year, having held a successful Christmas show back in December. They have been hard at work over the last few months to get ready for their summer show, working hard on new songs at their weekly Wednesday sessions in the Ockment Centre.

During the interval, the choir held a raffle kindly supported by members of Okehampton Singers and local businesses, which raised £120.28 for the mental health charity Rethink Mental Illness.

The organisation provides expert advice and information to everyone affected by mental health problems on everything from treatment and care to benefits and employment rights. It also campaigns nationally for policy change and has over 200 mental health services and 150 support groups across England to directly help thousands every year across England. In Okehampton, Rethink holds sessions at the weekly Friday hub at the Ockment Centre.

Kelly Young, musical director for Okehampton Singers, said: ‘I am so proud of our members for their hard work in the lead up to the concert and the high professional standards which they performed.

‘We are all really pleased to raise money and awareness for Rethink Mental Illness, a charity which does really important work supporting people with mental illnesses.’

Kelly expressed thanks to Guy Cracknell, Jane from Rethink Mental Illness and Ian Dixon for doing the sound.
