A PROGRAMME of concerts bringing music to Chagford kicks off later this month with a show about love and war.
The 2013 Music in the Church programme has been organised by the Friends of St Michael's Church in an effort to raise money for the church and churchyard, as well as provide Chagford residents with a great programme of entertainment. In 2012 the friends held five concerts and raised £3,500.
The series of concerts kicks off on Saturday, June 15 with Love and War, a performance by singer Jo de Waal and Julian Masters.
The duo will provide a fresh, funny and heartfelt take on love and war in entertaining reworkings of classic pieces from composers such as Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler and Stephen Sondheim.
Performances later in the year include an afternoon of tea and cakes at Chagford House, followed by music in the church, looking at the Life and Times of Queen Elizabeth I.
Roger and Christine Cleverdon will present a celebration of Flanders and Swann in September, while in November, Elizabeth-Jane Baldry will present captivating harp solos from five centuries of music.
Tickets to the show on June 15 cost £10 to include a buffet. The show starts in St Michael's Church at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Sally's Newsagents.
