OKEHAMPTON Rotary Club has been busy in the last week, showing their support for a young sportsperson and holding its Christmas fayre and coffee morning.

President Nils Westman presented a cheque for £250 to Naomi Jackson at the club's lunch on Thursday, November 22.

Naomi plays table tennis, and the money is to help her with travel expenses when she attends national tournaments.

She gave a short speech thanking the club for their continued sponsorship, and explained how the support is vital to allow her to continue her sporting activities.

The club held its Christmas fayre and coffee morning on Saturday.

The hall was full as people came in for coffee and mince pies, and browsed the stalls.

The West Devon Folk Choir gave a recital of folk music from around the world, and Father Christmas paid an early visit to the town.

The guides, scouts, WI and several other organisations has stalls to raise funds for their groups, and Okehampton Rotary also ran stalls and held a raffle.

Funds raised will be spent on local charitable causes and supporting individuals like Naomi Jackson.

The club expressed thanks to Okehampton College principal Daryll Chapman for allowing Naomi to collect her cheque during school hours, and to everyone who supported their coffee morning.
