ONE of your readers (Letters, October 13) asked for clarification of the Okehampton Foodbank policy on fresh produce.

I am pleased to confirm that we are able to receive and distribute fresh produce. Whilst we cannot store it in our warehouse (which is only licensed for the storage of non-perishable goods) we invite donors to bring their gifts to Okehampton Baptist Church at 10am on Friday morning.

Most of the food parcels are handed out from the church between 10am and noon and we are pleased to offer all fresh produce donated to our clients during this session.

Obviously, not all folk in crisis can wait until a Friday and so we have an emergency service as well which can be accessed via a free phone number 0800 978 8563.

Okehampton should be very proud of the community spirit which ensures that no-one needs to go hungry in our town.
