MEMBERS of Okehampton’s 2443 RAF air cadets squadron recently competed successfully in the annual air cadet competition the Caiels Trophy.

The competition, named after a former wing commander and held at Okehampton Camp, is open to all 23 Air Training Corps squadrons within the Plymouth and Cornwall wing.

It consists of numerous activities such as aircraft recognition, drill, banner drill, leadership, first aid, micro navigation, map exercise, fieldcraft, production of a flying model and shooting.

The 2443 Squadron managed to finish in fourth place in 2017.

Through hard work, perseverance and a concerted team effort the team have this year moved up the rankings into third place.

The results included a first place in micro navigation, a complex exercise involving navigating short distances using paces and compass bearings, and a second place in shooting.
