THE Jack and Jill Toddler and Baby Group in Sticklepath has received a boost with a generous £500 donation from the Taw River Inn.

The pub held a beer festival and barbecue over the August bank holiday weekend to raise money for the toddler group and the Quaker Burial Ground in the village.

The day's events raised a magnificent £1,000, which was split evenly between the two causes.

Sue Jones, landlady at the Taw River, said: 'It was a wonderful event, with everyone enjoying themselves, and wonderful weather. We started at noon and carried on throughout the day, charging people a pound a pint.

'Everyone had a fantastic time raising a lot of money for these two great causes. When deciding who to donate to, we thought we would help out two charities in the village.

'With times being hard for everyone at the moment, it is nice to support local causes. My son used to come to this group, which gives it added meaning for us.

'The beer was kindly donated by St Austell Brewery, Sharp's Brewery, Dartmoor Brewery and Richard Johnson, who makes Sticklepath Cider. It was extremely generous of them.'

Sue popped in to the group's meeting last Friday to receive a thank you card made by children in the group.

Rachel Bertram from the toddler group said: 'This is really great for the group. We haven't planned what we will do with the money just yet, but we think we will use it for new equipment and update some of the toys we have for the group.'

The Jack and Jill Toddler Group meets every Tuesday and Friday throughout school term time from 10am to 11.45am. All under 5s accompanied by an adult are welcome to join the group, which allows children to play together while parents or carers also get a chance to socialise.

Everyone from the group expressed thanks to all at the Taw River Inn for their hard work and generous donation.
