HATHERLEIGH musician Josie Lloyd was among those who performed at the first 2014 meeting of Okehampton Acoustic Club.
The club promotes acoustic music by both bands and solo performers, and encourages local talent to take part. Set up in February 2012, musicians at the club play a mix of their own original material and covers, with styles ranging from folk to jazz and RnB.
This month's meeting welcomed Josie, who plays ragtime and blues on a steel bodied national guitar. She has just released a CD recorded and produced in Yorkshire by Steve Phillips of the Nottinghillbillies.
The CD has received significant airtime on independent blues radio shows both here and abroad, and Josie is scheduled to perform on the Live Lounge stage at Chagstock in the summer.
She was joined by Christo, My Black Hat, Phil Bird and Michael Georghiou and Matt.
Christo is a travelling Greek Cypriot musician, who performed songs from his self-titled album. My Black Hat brought their unique style — which includes the use of a washboard and a blues harp — to the club for a second time.
Phil Bird, one of the founders of the acoustic club and singer songwriter of Troubadour's Garden, performed a solo set of songs from his new CD Gleemans Tales.
Michael Georghiou and Matt are from the Torquay based indie band Dirty Dusk.
The band reached the 2012 final of Okehampton Battle of the Bands.
