A THIRTEEN-year-old Okehampton College student has been invited to become a member of the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain. Ellie Joy plays the trumpet in the college big band, but has been playing in brass bands since she was seven, and currently plays the flugel horn in the Bugle Silver Band. She is also a member of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, which gives her the opportunity to play with and learn from the best conductors and players in the brass band world. The National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain is made up of around 50 of the most promising young brass players in the country. Ellie will be attending her first week-long course at the end of July in Derbyshire. Ellie and her family have expressed thanks to her teacher Chris Spreadbury, the Cornwall Youth Brass Band and the trustees of Okehampton United Charity for their support on the start of her musical journey.
