A FORMER student of Okehampton College is all set to undertake an epic journey to raise money for charity. Eve Van der Steen, an ex-student of Okehampton College and now a student at Exeter University, will be joined by eight friends as they attempt to drive from London to Barcelona in three days for the 'Barcelona Bangers' rally. In a twist akin to a crazy episode of Top Gear, the group of friends have to complete the journey in cars that cost less than £200. They have entered three cars into the rally, which takes place between July 17 and 20. They will be driving a Peugeot 405 Tdi, a 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa and an Audi 80. The route will take them from London to Calais, Calais to Lyon, Lyon to Nice and then Nice to Barcelona, a total of around 1,100 miles. The group of friends have decided to do the rally to raise funds to support the charity CLIC Sargent and have currently raised close to £500 but are aiming to reach the £2,000 mark. Eve said: 'All of us have experienced friends and relatives with cancer recently and the amazing work CLIC has done for them so we felt this was an extremely worthy cause and that we can make what ought to be a very enjoyable three days, even more important and worthwhile.' Will Peilow, one of Eve's fellow team members, added: 'We chose CLIC Sargent after a University friend of ours was diagnosed with lymphoma last September.   'Fortunately, after months of chemotherapy, he is in remission.  Our friend, Jonny, told us that he benefited greatly from CLIC.  We would like to give something back to the charity by raising money for them. 'We will offer to companies who sponsor us the opportunity to have their company logos "stickered" on the sides of the car.  'Every penny raised from sponsorship will go to CLIC.  None of it will be used for car maintenance, petrol or for our personal use.'
