FOLLOWING North Tawton Town Hall's recent acquisition of a cinema licence, the theme of the town's Midsummer Festival this year is 'Films'.
The festival runs from Saturday June 18 to Sunday June 26, and is the town hall's main fundraising event, with all profits going towards the day-to-day running costs of the hall. All events take place in the town hall unless stated otherwise.
The week's events kick off with the festival market at 10am on Saturday June 18. Table-tops cost £5, and prizes will be given to those with the best decorated stall, and the stall that most closely follows the theme of films. Call Lin Ford on 01837 880031 to book your table.
That evening the town hall will be home to a night of cash bingo. Doors open at 7.15pm, with eyes down at 8pm. There will be a jackpot to be won, which is normally worth about £100. There will also be a prize draw.
On Sunday there will be an open air church service in the square at 11am, with music from Hatherleigh Silver Band.
In the afternoon, a walking treasure hunt will set off from the square between 2pm and 2.30pm. Entry costs £1.50 each, with the hunt finishing at the town hall for cream teas and a prize draw. Those not hunting out the treasure are more than welcome to join treasure hunters at the hall for cream teas.
Wednesday 22nd sees the quiz night. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Each team costs £5, with a maximum of five quizzers on each team.
An event on Thursday 23rd is for the youngsters — a kiddie's disco from 6pm to 8.30pm. There will be drinks and snacks, and prizes to be won. Entry costs £2 for each child, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Another round of bingo is on Saturday June 25, with doors open at 7.15pm and eyes down at 8pm.
On Sunday June 26 there is another treasure hunt from the square between 2pm and 2.30pm. Entry is £1.50 each with cream teas at Monica's at the end of the hunt.
The festival whist drive takes place on Thursday July 7. Doors open at 7.30pm, and the whist drive starts at 8pm. Entry costs £1.50, and there will be a prize draw.
