THE Winsford Trust is running its Heritage Open Day at the Winsford Centre in Halwill Junction this Saturday.

Run in conjunction with English Heritage, the open day will take place for free from 11am to 3pm.

A Grade II* listed building, the 111-year- old building was formerly Winsford Cottage Hospital. Commissioned in 1899 by a local benefactress as a gift to the parishes of North Devon, it is the only building designed by CFA Voysey in public ownership.

It is now owned by the Winsford Trust, and remains almost entirely as Voysey conceived it, with most of the original features still in place.

The trust's main intention is to focus on encouraging creative and artistic endeavours that make use of the building's facilities.

The trust would like to develop courses, activities, workshops and events related to arts and crafts, and would like anyone with ideas for potential projects to get in touch.

The centre will also be available for more general hire, such as conferences, parties and weekend retreats.

The open plan rooms, IT suite, acre of gardens and fully functional kitchen make the centre perfect for local business initiatives, artists, training companies, voluntary organisations, clubs, societies and youth groups.

All are welcome to come and have a look around the centre, and see the opportunities on offer.
