CHICKEN droppings are set to boost the funds of four charities at an event in Hatherleigh in June.

A chicken will be released in a marked out field of a thousand sponsored squares at a Hatherleigh Rotary Club event at the Waie Inn, Zeal Moachorum — and if the chicken leaves its 'calling card' in a square you have bought then you could win £1,000.

Squares cost £5 and if all are sold then the £4,000 profit will be divided between the Children's Hospice South West, Exeter Leukaemia Fund, FORCE and the Ellen Tinkham School for Disabled Children.

If you wish to buy a square or squares for the event, send cheques, made out to 'Hatherleigh Rotary Club', to P Pyle Auctioneers, Hatherleigh — don't forget to include your address.

The event, which takes place on Saturday June 26, is being organised jointly by Hatherleigh and Crediton Boniface Rotary Clubs and also includes music from Crediton Town band, a country crafts display and attractions for children, a beer festival, a charity auction, 70s disco and hog roast. The chicken event is at 5pm.
