FIREFIGHTERS prevented a chimney fire from spreading to the thatched roof at a public house in Highampton last Sunday.
Two fire crews from Hatherleigh and Holsworthy attended just after 6.30pm. Firefighters used a covering jet on the thatched roof, which prevented the fire from spreading to the roof.
Firefighters from Hatherleigh were called to a chimney fire at a property in Jacobstowe last Saturday.
One crew attended just before 8.20pm and requested a fire crew from Okehampton to attend with a thermal imaging camera.
The fire involved a wooden beam in the chimney in the ground floor living room. Firefighters used chimney gear, hydraulic rescue equipment, a roof ladder and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.
