A PERUVIAN producer of Fairtrade coffee paid a special visit to Okehampton last week to spread the virtues of Fairtrade produce.

Oscar Salazar and members of the Okehampton Fairtrade Group were doing the rounds on Tuesday February 26 to discuss Fairtrade produce and how the initiative is directly benefiting food producers from poorer countries.

Okehampton mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies welcomed Mr Salazar and the Fairtrade group to the town hall's council chambers to discuss his work.

More than 120 Year 5 primary school pupils from across the Okehampton Learning Community had the opportunity to meet with Mr Salazar at Okehampton College. It is hoped that out of the day's events, students will set up a Fairtrade group of their own, and will be encouraged to organise Fairtrade activities within the college.`
