CHILDREN from nine local primary schools took part in a free swimming gala organised by OCRA.

Parklands Leisure Centre hosted the West Devon School Gala on July 12, and opened up its pool free of charge as part of the OCRA Sports and Fitness Festival week.

Children from nine schools from years four, five and six took part in the event in two separate leagues — a small schools league and a large schools league.

South Tawton Primary won the large school league, with Okehampton Primary finishing as runners up. Bridestowe Primary won the small school league with Lewtrenchard finishing as runners up.

The gala was hosted by Mike Reynolds and Mervyn Rice and organised by OCRA. Several off-duty Parklands staff kindly gave up their morning to help run the popular event.
