RENDELLS report a highly successful sixth TB restricted cattle sale at Newton Abbot Market on July 20.
A smaller entry sold to a flying trade with a number of new and returning buyers in attendance.
Store cattle — a nice run of cattle met a good demand with forward stores selling to trade level with normal open market prices.
Topping the trade was a run of 22-24 mo Charolais steers from A and V Tiernan, of Ashburton, at £960 and £845, 18mo heifers from the same home making up to £772. 12-13 mo Simmental steers from £740 to £800 and heifers to £720 for S L M Crocker, of Totnes. A smart run of 14mo Charolais heifers at £645 for M J Wonnacot, of Okehampton. Aberdeen Angus heifers to £460 and British Blue heifers to £500 for G N Arscott, of Chagford.
Average price for steers was £825 with heifers at £614.
Over-age cattle — a small entry met a strong demand with a healthy demand for greater numbers. Top price on the day to N M Ekers, of Totnes, with a Simmental cow at £980.10 (121ppk).
