THE principal of Okehampton College helped to attract around 30 people to the recent mayor's community breakfast, giving a talk on goings-on at the college.
Daryll Chapman spoke passionately about the college, discussing continued exam successes in a variety of subjects and disciplines.
The college's foundation status, its success with renewable energy, and efforts to involve students in the community and dementia awareness, were covered during the talk.
He also spoke about the pressures of having the second largest catchment area in the country, and the logistics of transporting students to the college.
Town mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies said: 'Mr Chapman has such enthusiasm for the college, which was evident when he spoke.
'It was very clear from his talk that he is passionate about education and passionate about providing the appropriate opportunities for all those who attend Okehampton College.
'He and his staff have accomplished a great deal in recent years and it is wonderful to have a college which is so highly regarded not just locally, but in the country.'
The mayor's monthly breakfasts are open for anyone to attend. Each breakfast consists of a full English breakfast followed by a short talk from people involved within the life of Okehampton.
There will be no mayor's breakfast in December, with the next event planned for Wednesday, January 15 in the Charter Hall.
Dr Tim Watson, a partner at Okehampton Medical Centre, will be the speaker.
Starting at 8am, the breakfast costs £7 per person. Payment must be made by Friday, January 10, to be dropped in to the town hall in cash or a cheque made payable to 'Okehampton Town Council — Mayor's Account'.
The breakfasts are planned to make a small profit, with all profits going to the mayor's chosen charities for 2013/14, Get Changed Theatre Company and Tor Support Services.
