THE founder of the Meteorological Office will be the topic of the discussion at the next meeting of Hatherleigh History Society.
Philip Collins from Barometer World will give the talk on Vice-Admiral Robert Fitzroy, who was made chief of the forerunner to the Meterological Office. He was the captain of HMS Beagle during Charles Darwin's famous voyage, and was a pioneering meteorologist who helped make accurate weather forecasting possible.
The meeting is on Monday May 14 at 7.30pm in Old Schools. All are welcome, admission costs £2 for non-members.
