FORMER Conservative MP? Ann Widdecombe will be the guest of honour at the TUKAE garden party in Northlew on July 12. Miss Widdecombe, who gained popularity through her performances on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, will be a special guest signing her book and chatting to guests. The event is raising money for some of the poorest people in the world living in the Armani district of North East Tanzania and events kick off at noon with a barbecue. Stalls, competitions and cream teas will be available; everyone is welcome. Included in the prize draw is a magnificent hamper containing wines, spirits and a wide variety of foodstuffs. The last time this event was held over £2,500 was raised and spent on infrastructure, schools and health centres and the Anglican, Methodist and Catholic churches that are organising this garden party are hoping to top that figure this year – virtually no money is spent on administration and the monies are spent directly on the most needy projects in the area.
