THE CHANCE 'to grab' the shirt of England footballer Rio Ferdinand is one of the opportunities at a special glamourous evening event to raise money for a local charity.

The annual Hatherleigh Starlight ball will be taking place on Saturday, September 5, and this year, the event will raise money for local charity Hospiscare.

The glittering event, which will be held at West Fishleigh Farm, will, say the organisers, be a fun-filled evening with delicious, locally sourced food, a dancing and live music.

Guests will be treated to a champagne and canapés reception and a superb three course dinner, plus entertainment.

Hospiscare is a local charity which supports people with terminal illness in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

The proceeds of the event will go towards the charity's 'Ease the Pain' appeal, which needs to raise £3.5 million this year.

Fundraiser Tracey Skinner said: 'This is going to be a wonderfully enjoyable event and we are so grateful to the organisers for choosing Hospiscare to benefit this year.

'Every penny raised will allow us to continue providing care, comfort and reassurance to our patients and their loved ones.

'Terminal and life-threatening illnesses do not have to mean pain and suffering and we urge people to support this event and our Ease the Pain appeal and help us to make a difference,' she said.

People can make a bid on the silent auction by calling Michelle Downie 01837 810774.

Among the many quality items on auction will be a signed England rugby shirt signed by Phil Vickery and a Manchester United shirt signed by Rio Ferdinand.

All proceeds from the event will go to Hospiscare.
