AN award-winning nursery in Sticklepath has struck gold again, clinching two more golds to add to their collection.
Bowden Nurseries specialises in mail order hostas, ferns and grasses, and has emulated its success in 2012 by winning two golds at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The nursery, run by husband and wife team Tim and Ruth Penrose, clinched two golds for their floral marquees.
Their hosta display, comprised 125 hosta plants and an elegant patio area, and included a number of hosta George Smith plants, named after the renowned gardener. He was present at the show, working with Bowden Nurseries to help talk about the plants on display.
Fern expert Martin Rickard was at the event with Bowden Nurseries to talk about the plants and the Bowden fern display.
Tim said: 'It was the largest Chelsea Show for us and it was a phenomenal few days.
'Our hosta display was a wonderful sea of green, with leaves varying from teaspoon size to the size of a dinner plate. The fern display was more like a woodland, with moss and ferns aplenty.
'At Chelsea we were inundated with orders and interest, more than ever before. We even got the Director General of the BBC to buy a large tree fern from us.
'We worked very hard over the week, but it shows if businesses are really hungry for the money, it is out there if you will work hard enough for it.'
Tim and Ruth purchased the hosta nursery from Ann and Roger Bowden in 2004. Since then, in addition to winning ten Chelsea gold medals and more than 20 RHS gold medals, they have been awarded a Royal Warrant to the Prince of Wales.
