THE Dartmoor Pony is a name given to a trophy - a handsome sculptured bronze stallion pony —competed for between the golf clubs in the Dartmoor National `park.
This popular tournament was set up some 15 years ago by Sue and Peter Pearman from Teign Valley Golf Club.
There are currently five competing clubs in the National Park who each send a team of six mixed pairs, who are in turn drawn with pairs from the other clubs. The venue rotates annually round the participating clubs who host the day in fine style.
The tournament is quite unique and combines friendly rivalry with good serious golf. This year it was the turn of Yelverton to host the event.
The format of greensomes stableford is popular for this tournament and certainly suited the winners Tavistock - nine points clear of the home club Yelverton.
Okehampton and Wrangaton tied with Teign Valley just a point or two behind.
