OKEHAMPTON Golf Club has 'hosted' the Ryder Cup as part of its year-long centenary celebrations.

The cup was the star attraction at a glittering dinner for members and guests, many of whom took the opportunity to have their photograph taken with the iconic gold trophy.

It was brought to the club by the Professional Golfers' Association's (PGA) chief executive Sandy Jones, who rounded off the evening with an entertaining speech on his long association with the sport.

Club captain David Warren said: 'The Ryder Cup is one of the most recognisable and prestigious trophies in sport. To have the chance to see it close up and to hear the PGA's top man speak so entertainingly was very special.

'The occasion will live long in the memories of all those who attended the dinner.'
