Devon and Exeter three
South Zeal Utd 2
Bampton 1
SOUTH Zeal got back into winning ways with a hard fought victory against a resilient Bampton side at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.
Due to the difficult conditions playing with the slope was a great advantage and Bampton had most of the play in the first half as they pinned Zeal into their own half.
It was Zeal who scored first when Redd Cann made a great break down the right and his low cross was turned in by a Bampton defender with two Zeal forwards waiting to turn the cross into the net.
However, Zeal were living on the odd break and only some good keeping by Will Eddy in the home goal supported by a resilent back three, where Richard Horton was exeptional, kept the visitors from equalising.
On the half hour Bampton's pressure told as they converted a penalty and the teams turned round for the second half at 1-1 .
In the second half it was all South Zeal but the Bampton keeper was having a great game as he thwarted Tom Reilly, Harley Cann and Darren Prouse with very good saves, but United would not be denied and the winner came 20 minutes from time when Dan Wakeham put Harley Cann through on goal and he finished well from close range to give Zeal a deserved win.
