WORK done by Okehampton's Devon Heartlands Community Forum is to be recognised for its leading role in community engagement,
The forum will be featured as a case study at a major conference in Tiverton on February 17.
Hosted by Creating Excellence, the National Empowerment Partnership and partners, the conference will feature the work of the forum and others that are leading the way in demonstrating that community-led planning and engagement is at the heart of the debate about localism and the 'Big Society'.
This conference is a big occasion for the forum and recognition of the work that has been supported by Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council, the Carnegie UK Trust and the Devon Towns Forum among others.
Members of the forum are keen to help spread the word that people can come together to shape their communities.
The Devon Heartlands Community Forum is free to anyone living or working in the Okehampton, North Tawton and Chagford areas.
It meets between 2pm and 4pm at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton, on the first Wednesday of every month to discuss issues of importance to the community and to help connect people to the agencies and their local councillors.
To find out more, just turn up to one of the meetings, where you will be made most welcome. Alternatively, telephone 01837 65991 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
