THE developer behind proposals to build 43 homes on land originally allocated for a second primary school showed detailed plans for the site at a public exhibition last week.
The exhibition by Leander Developments and Vuepoint Consulting took place in the Charter Hall last Thursday.
The plans revealed the majority of houses to be two and three bedroom bungalows and chalet bungalows, with a smaller number of two-storey homes on the north of the site, adjacent to Baldwin Drive. These homes make up the affordable housing quota on the site.
Representatives from the development team were present to explain the proposals and answer questions.
Naomi Crassweller from Vuepoint Consulting said: 'We have had a positive response to the exhibition, with people keen to see the types of homes going on the site.
'As with exhibitions like this there have been questions and concerns. The point is that today we talk to people, get their opinions and address any concerns they may have.
'People have come in and said they would like to see a school on the site, but we are trying to move past that and show the houses that have been given permission to go here, and show people our plans going forward.'
In April, West Devon Borough Council's planning committee approved outline plans by Leander Developments to build houses on the land.
The 43 homes are to be built on a larger plot originally earmarked for a second primary school as part of the local plan. For the school to be viable, a second smaller parcel of land also had to be secured.
Borough councillors were reluctant to over-rule their own strategy policy, which stated the smaller parcel of land was allocated for residential planning, and refused the application on the smaller plot. As a result of the larger site being unsuitable for a school by itself, councillors also agreed to grant permission for the 43 homes on the larger plot.
