TWO centuries of village life are set to be displayed in an exhibition of unprecedented scope and imagination. This week will see the launch of a special exhibition to celebrate 200 years of Germansweek in picture and print. The exhibition will be officially opened at 2pm on Saturday, July 19 by Maurie Webber, curator of the Museum of Dartmoor Life and will then be open daily from 2pm until 8pm (6pm on Sundays) until Sunday, July 27. Alan Smithers, from Germansweek, said: 'Over the last two decades we have been collecting photographs and any written material, records, letters, deeds, family trees, on the parish of Germansweek. 'This exhibition gives an ideal chance to put the last 200 years of the village's history under the microscope, also on display will be the church records from 1640, every baptism, marriage and burial in the parish from then until today, for anyone to view. 'It's not often such a small village puts on such a display and it would be nice to share it with the outside world.' The earliest photos on show will be from the 1880s with more than 1,500 pictures in all and a total of 500 on display. There will also be reams and reams of records and literature about the parish. While the exhibition is taking place there will be a grand reunion service on Sunday, July 20 at 6pm and a festival of bells from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday, July 27 to be followed by a patronal festival and service of thanksgiving. The exhibition will be in situ at Germansweek parish church and admission is £3.
