THE Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have visited Tavistock in the past in the form of Safeway/Morrisons, McDonalds, Lidl, Wetherspoons and now Tesco’s.

Despite harbingers of doom citing poverty, unemployment, beggars and the collapse of society due to Russell Street becoming a facsimile of Scargillstrasse (Union Street) and light pollution (remember that one?) when electricity came to Plymouth Road, the town has survived and, dare I say it, improved.

When the Piano Centre resembled a suburb of Allepo not a word was spoken, but when development began cries of despair filled the air.

However the area now looks part of a healthy town and creates a far better first impression.

The plan for £2 all day parking has proved successful with Riverside Car Park full most days and may have helped stem the flow of people leaving town to shop. Tavistock is adjacent to Dartmoor National Park, not Jurassic Park, and recent developments have enhanced the whole ambience of the town.

I may be one of the silent majority but I have now had my say and I approve.
