FOLLOWING a period of sustained fundraising and a generous grant from Awards for All, a group of Hatherleigh residents spent last weekend working on the groundworks for a new skate area in the town.

A period of early summer weather allowed the team to progress well with clearing the land and preparing for the concrete base of the skate area, which will be in Island Park, Hatherleigh, opposite the fire station.

The skatepark organisers hope to raise sufficient funds for some smaller ramps and further skate park equipment and it is hoped the skate area will be finished this month.

The group expressed thanks to Knowle Contractors and Western Power who supported the project by the donation of materials, and to Douglas Stevens, Rupert Brandon-King, Chris Brown-Martin and Adam Keates, who helped and supported the project throughout.
