ADAM Symons, the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for West Devon and Torridge, informs us (Times, January 29), that statistics show that West Devon and Torridge workers have the lowest wages in the UK, apart from Berwick-upon-Tweed in Scotland, which is lower by £9.

May I point out that Berwick-upon-Tweed is on the North Northumberland Heritage Coast which, strangely enough, is in Northumberland, which is still in England, unless the Liberals have other ideas!
