BRATTON Clovelly's celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday June 5 have provided the opportunity to revive the tradition of an annual village fete.
Many years ago Bratton Clovelly hosted a week of activities under the name 'Fete Week', but this fell into decline and ceased.
Resident Rachel Orchard said 'As children we loved the fete week, which had a different activity each day. There was "It's a Knockout", music events, a quiz night and competitions and the fete day itself.'.
Fete organisers said 'branding' the event 'It Must Be Fete' was appropriate, as the jubilee celebration has generated a renewed community connection to an annual fete. They aim to make it a family event by ensuring there are activities where children can participate for free. It is also hoped adults will donate to Devon Air Ambulance and other charities as their contribution to the event. Lewdown Young Farmers concluding their 24-hour bikathon.
The fete will be opened at noon by a Devon Radio message from Judi Spiers and will run until 5pm.
The evening continues with a beginners' barn dance at 7:30 in the parish hall.
