IT was always going to be tough for the under strength Tavistock team.
For Tavistock Angus was marauding on the wing taking on all comers. The rucking was solid and Alex was in the mix pinching good opposition ball. Although the try count against Tavistock was two to one due to some fine play from Newton Abbot our lads kept their pride with fine runs from Joe H and Alec who weaved his way through the defence for a fine try. There was some superb off-loading which enabled Harry D to go in at the corner. The team welcomed back Charlie after injury and he was able to score after head butting the ball from a kick. There were good performances from Ollie with Luke and Harvey offering good support in midfield.

OKEHAMPTON started positively applying early pressure from the kick-off but wasted chances from making some wrong decisions. However the Okes gathered themselves and put the wrongs to rights and Joe Mawle stretched for the line to open the scoring.
The visitors began to grow with confidence and started to spread the ball wide stretching the Bude defence. Tom Bailey at scrum half was the next to score running blind from a five meter scrum to get a touch down.
Bude did not give up, the number 10 caused Okehampton some big defensive problems, breaking through tackles and making some big runs. However Okehampton seemed to have a more complete unit, the forwards scrummaged and rucked well and the backs tackled and passed the ball better
The Oke try scorers were Joe Mawle, Daniel Thorne, Jack Raymond, Tom Bailey and Johnny King.
Jack Dickinson and William James made some strong runs and were unlucky not to go over.
This was a good team performance, recording the Okes first win of the season.

THIS was a creditable effort from the Okehampton boys, against a well drilled Topsham side which has been county champions at this age group for several seasons.
Playing up the slope first half, Oke found it hard to contain the host’s strong back line resulting in two converted tries. Howeve,r turning around 14-0 against this quality of opposition was no mean effort.
In the second half; with the slope in their favour, Okehampton reduced the arrears with a try from Kieran Coyle converted by Leon Horn. Oke were now right in it as their forwards held sway. Tackles began to be missed though, and as the visitors forwards tired Topsham scored again to stretch their lead. There was still time for Leon Horne to cross for a self converted try but it was not enough to force the draw. This was a decent performance against good opposition.

OKEHAMPTON raised their game from the off, scoring first with a try by Nathan T. Quick handling by Topsham, with them spreading the ball wide, meant they equalised soon afterwards. The visitors took advantage of a short throw at the line out for Nathan to run through the defence and score his second. Better scrums, quicker rucking and hard tackling by all the team helped Oke to their third, by Nathan T, before half time.
Topsham started well in the second half but the visitors dug deep and were able to counter any Topsham attack with constant defending in the centre of the field. This led to a break away run by Nathan who was able to go over for his fourth of the match. A fifth followed, with Topsham having scored and converted three tries - to Oke's three conversions by James M.
Both teams played some really good rugby with the Oke pack working tirelessly throughout the whole match.

TAVISTOCK had to dig deep as they struggled to field a full team.
The new ability in the team has for retaining the ball, however, made this a close game until the last five minutes, with Tavistock taking the leadbut ultimately running out of steam and players.
The forwards won nearly all the scrums with a strong front rowof Morgan Turnock, Cian Benny and Joe Burbage and a powerful back row of Tom Pearson and Will Lord. Morgan Turnock, in particular had a great game.
Three tries from Jude White gave the team confidence, and captain Luke Lewandowski led from the front putting in some of his best tackles so far this season.
Christian and Tyler, although inexperienced, played through the whole game and stood their ground well, supporting the team. A late burst through the centre by Jason Blake, after ripping the ball, nearly got Tavistock back into the game but Newton Abbot just held him up on the line. Tavistock player of the match was Jude White.

Tavistock started well with their usual strong runs into the opposition defence, but were soon knocked back on their heels by a well drilled, hard rucking Newton Abbott side.
Tavistock put some decent attacks together through centres James Kenyon and Jack Bellamy with half backs Harry Edwards and Noah Berridge applying some pressure of their own but were 20-0 down at half time. In the second half, Tavistock came out fighting and pulled two tries back through the strength of the pack - Oscar Campbell, Cameron Georgel and Harry Richardson teaming up from a five metre penalty to push Oscar over. Oscar added a second from a similar forwards' drive. However Newton Abbot rallied and ran in another four tries past a tiring Tavistock team. Some good tackling and go forward ball from Dylan Owen and Dan Pett encouraged the visitors team.
