Falmouth ladies seconds 1
Tavistock ladies 3
IT was a lively game with the visitors taking control. Tavistock worked the ball well up the pitch with good passing between the midfield and forwards. There were numerous shots on goal but the home side's defence kept the ball out. When the home side did get into the Tavistock 25 yard area, the defence worked hard to close down any threat.
Charlotte Olive, making her debut for the first team, had an excellent game with great tackling and distribution for Tavistock. Evans and Mills-Hicks as always were solid at the back.
Against the run of play the opposition got into the visitor's 'D' and following some ping pong with the ball between the defence and attackers the ball slipped past Viggars and into the goal. The visitors came back from this with strength and speed. White worked tirelessly on the right feeding the ball to McClumpha and Gaspar up front.
Tavistock were awarded a number of penalty corners but the ball was just not getting over the goal line. Eventually a beautifully executed penalty corner resulted in the equaliser. Armstrong received the ball at the top of the 'D' who struck it firmly to Stapleton, who was waiting on the post to slip it cleanly past the keeper.
The second half was end to end play but the visitors moved up a gear. They pressured the opposition's defence continually, there were great crosses into the 'D' but Gaspar could not quite control it into the net. Tavistock took the lead following a great cross into Armstrong who passed on to Gaspar and she smashed it into the back of the net.
There were still some hairy moments for the visitors' defence and they had to defend some penalty corners. Armstrong for Tavistock played some beautiful hockey and worried the opposition with her great ball skills; she got the ball into the 'D' time after time but the back of the net was elusive.
Following more good linking play McClumpha extended the lead with another well taken goal.
The play continued to go the visitor's way but in the last minutes of the game the opposition came close to scoring but were denied by the tip of Viggars stick and the goal post. This was a fine away win for the Tavistock ladies.
